Introducing the Student List
Before you are the people students have chosen to represent them in the National Assembly.
The list comprises individuals of diverse ages, professions, backgrounds, and life stories. They come from various parts of Serbia—from large cities and smaller communities alike—and from classrooms, medical practices, offices, workshops, cultural institutions, and other settings, where you see daily how the country functions when institutions do their job, and what happens when they do not.
We did not look for people who would look best on a billboard, nor for those who have spent years mastering the art of negotiating a spot on an electoral list. We sought people we believe can enter the institutions, perform their duties responsibly, and never forget why they are there.
How the List Was Formed
The candidates were not chosen by party leaders, nor did anyone compile a list in a room and announce it to the rest. Instead, they were selected by students through a decision-making process we built over almost two years of blockades, plenums, discussions, and collaborative work. That process was neither quick nor simple.
Direct democracy rarely is. It entails dialogue, disagreement, argumentation, revisiting decisions, and accountability toward the people participating in the process.
That is precisely why it was important to us that we form the electoral list in this way. If we say we want a different political system, it makes no sense that our first step toward that goal is replicating the very model we are fighting against.
No Cult of Personality
That is why no single person on this list is meant to overshadow all others. We are not looking for a new leader around whom yet another cult of personality might be built. Instead, we are presenting individuals entrusted with taking the struggle we have waged on the streets for the past year into the institutions.
We do not expect them to be infallible, nor do we expect them to have an answer for every question. We expect something much simpler, though, in this country, evidently much harder: that they be accountable for their actions, listen to the people they represent, explain their decisions, and understand that a parliamentary seat is not a reward, a privilege, or the start of a political career.
A parliamentary seat is a public role. The mandate belongs to the citizens, and the person holding it must know who they are accountable to.
These are the people we have chosen to do that job.
Statement Signed by the Student List Candidates
All candidates on the Student List have signed a statement accepting moral and political responsibility, committing to fulfilling their duties and working towards meeting all student demands and achieving the goals set out in the Social Agreement and the Students’ Programme of Minimum Demands.
