About the Blockades

Our student movement has evolved from an initial call for elections as a tool for achieving justice into the strongest political option in the country, winning at every step. The strength of our community lies in collective, deliberate, and responsible action. We do not accept individuals who attempt to elevate themselves above the community, nor do we create personality cults. Our fight is driven solely by a shared idea, far removed from personal interests or material gain. This is a space built for solidarity, mutual understanding, and deep empathy.

The path of our resistance began in a time of profound collective grief that united the citizens of Serbia. The greatest tragedy occurred on Friday, November 1st, 2024, at 11:52 AM, when the collapse of a concrete canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station claimed sixteen innocent lives. Outraged citizens across the country stopped in the streets at the same moment to pay tribute to the victims with fifteen minutes of silence.

The situation escalated further on November 22nd, 2024, when students and professors of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade were physically attacked during a peaceful gathering. In response to the violence and the complete absence of any police reaction, students launched a massive wave of blockades.

At the beginning of December 2024, classes were suspended in Belgrade at all faculties, and the Rectorate building was also blockaded. Soon the blockades spread, and all university centers in Serbia were blockaded. Plenary assemblies and direct student democracy laid the foundations of our solidarity-based society.

The struggle gained even greater momentum during 2025, when high school students and educators across Serbia joined the student blockades en masse, bringing the entire education system to a complete standstill. Mid-March 2025 will be remembered for the largest march in recent history, when over 300,000 citizens filled the streets of Belgrade, demonstrating the strength of an awakened society. After five months of unrelenting struggle and the authorities’ complete refusal to meet our legitimate demands, in May 2025 we took a decisive step and launched the call for snap parliamentary elections. Demanding elections became our key tactical tool and the instrument by which we are compelling institutions to deliver justice and accept our demands.

The summer months of 2025 brought new pressures, barricades, and police brutality on the streets.

Faced with arrests, we published a Guide to Civil Disobedience and began a tactic of decentralized controlled chaos, which we spread through the agricultural bloc and social media. This guide directed citizens on methods of blocking intersections, obstructing the work of government offices and registries, and applying economic pressure on the fiscal system. A particularly dramatic event took place in late June 2025 in Zemun, when two of our colleagues from the Faculty of Agriculture were arrested on false charges of undermining the constitutional order. Students then, with the support of local residents, completely sealed off the center of Zemun with barricades and containers, while colleagues from the Faculty of Philosophy called an emergency assembly on the Plateau against the police siege of the faculty.

Today, while many spread false claims about the fading energy of the civic resistance, our successes continue to mount. By monitoring elections at every polling station in the country, we are demonstrating our technical and organizational superiority, outsmarting our opponents at every turn, and safeguarding the will of the people.

Our solidarity and perseverance have grown into an undefeatable political force that is changing society. The student movement is alive and marching forward unstoppably — because the students are winning!
